Emergency Alerts: National launch and test of government warning and informing tool

Emergency Alerts has been launched to help warn and inform the public in response to threat to life incidents.

The Alert sends notifications to mobile phones, it’s designed to help emergency services and other agencies such as the Environment Agency to help the public stay safe during high-risk incidents.

On behalf on the government, we would like to inform you that they will conduct a nationwide test to all compatible mobile phones on Sunday 23 April, at 3pm. An Emergency Alert will be a loud, siren-like sound with a message on the screen.

Emergency Alerts are sent to compatible mobile phones within an area of risk. They don’t track your location, need your phone number, or collect personal data, and only the emergency services can send them. You can check an alert is genuine and find more information at www.gov.uk/alerts
