Maureen Jenkins
It is with sadness that we hear of the passing of the former Knowstone resident Maureen (Mo) Jenkins who has died at the age of 71 after a long battle with cancer. Her funeral takes place at St Mary Magdalene church in South Molton on Friday 10th May at 2pm. Family flowers only but donations can be sent care of Coop Funeralcare South Molton and will be in aid of the North Devon Hospice.
Maureen and her family moved to Knowstone in the early seventies and she farmed at East Hill in Knowstone village with her husband Derek. In the night she nursed at the hospital. She reared poultry for the market as well as baking mountains of pasties. She also bred Alsatians, her most memorable sale being to Hank Marvin from the Shadows. Later she went onto run a riding stable.
Her love of horses and three competitive children led to the idea of the Knowstone Show (Gymkhana) to raise money for the building and upkeep of the Village Hall and all monies raised were shared with the Church. This continued until 2002 when Maureen and her husband retired to South Molton. During this time she also ran Sidemoor Diner (at Knowstone picnic site) where, despite failing health, she worked until just before her death at the end of April.
Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.
