The Masons Arms is placed at number 60 in a list of the UK's Top 100 restaurants
Independent restaurant guide SquareMeal has published its annual list of the UK’s Top 100 Restaurants and three from Devon have been included. It’s the only list of its kind to exclude restaurants in London – as they go on a separate list – allowing the wider UK’s dining scene to shine.
SquareMeal says this year is set to be one of the hardest for many years, financially speaking, so the 2023 list has taken this into consideration and included many more affordable restaurants. Higher-priced restaurants included in the list offer not only the very best in UK dining but also impeccable service and an impressive ambiance, ensuring a memorable experience that’s worth the additional cost.
The list has been produced using a combination of thousands of reader votes and SquareMeal’s own expert critics. It is a reflection of the country’s wonderfully varied dining scene, featuring everything from fine dining through to farm-to-table restaurants and gastropubs. Each eatery is unique but they all have one thing in common – an unmissable menu.
At number 60 was Michelin-starred The Masons Arms at Knowstone near South Molton. SquareMeal said: “Not all locals are born equal, and a head and shoulders above the rest is The Masons Arms. Found in a sweet thatched building, its appearance is cottagecore while the food is anything but frilly – this is expertly mastered, gutsy pub grub.”
